In general, "astronaut" is the more formal and widely recognized term, while "spaceman" is more informal and can be used in a broader sense. Astronaut  capitalized is a specific title given to a rated space crewmember by NASA or the military services. The equivalent Russian is Cosmonaut, in China it's Taikonaut.
